FIELD SLAVE, New Amsterdam, Manhattan 1651

Dutch colonial field slave sings West African chants while he hoes the Great Bowerie. I propose that this event took place in the fields of the Bouwerie farm purchased in 1651 by P. Stuyvesant, Diretor-General of New Netherland, and located in the lower east side of Manhattan Island.
